Meet Paul Lenzmeier

I was raised in Andover and have lived in Anoka County my entire life. My senior year of high school I participated in the PSEO (Post Secondary Education Option) and attended Anoka Ramsey Community College earning college credits in high school.

After high school, I started with the Sheriff’s Office as a Community Service Officer. I began working with the Sheriff’s office in this capacity in 1997 and have worked with the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office ever since.

Where I Stand

I have worked for the Anoka Sheriff’s Office for over 25 years.  I have a firm grasp of the complexities of our office.  I also have a full understanding of the services we provide as well as the phenomenal staff who provides them.  I have served in command level leadership for the past 11 years.   I am the commander of the largest division, the patrol division.  I am responsible for law enforcement contract services to 8 of the 21 communities in Anoka County, which have a combined population of 80,000.  I have been able to build relationships with 8 different elected official groups in these communities along with public safety partners.  This type of relationship building is essential as Sheriff and I have been successful with maintaining these relationships.  I have significant management experience.  I oversee a budget of over 10 million dollars and have been under budget every year while ensuring our staff has the equipment and technology needed to safely serve our communities.  I hold a Master’s Degree in Police Leadership from the University of St. Thomas, a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Metropolitan State University and an Associate’s Degree in Law Enforcement from North Hennepin Community College.  I believe I have unparalleled experience to lead the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office.

Yes, for over 24 years, in every rank I have held, I have sworn an oath to uphold the constitution of the United States and the State of Minnesota.  As your Sheriff, I will begin by reaffirming my oath as I have done in every promotion since 2008.  I will protect the rights of all residents and visitors of Anoka County without exception.

As Sheriff, the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office will be nonpartisan.  My focus will be on public safety.  The decisions I make as your Sheriff will be made in the best interest of Anoka County public safety and will never be made based on party ideologies.  Public safety should never be partisan and this is why I will remain nonpartisan.
